National Archaeology Day 2012 at the New Jersey State Museum

National Archaeology Day is a celebration of archaeology and the thrill of discovery. Every October the Archaeological Institute of America and archaeological organizations across the United States, Canada and abroad present archaeological programs and activities for people of all ages and interests. Whether it is a family-friendly archaeology fair, a guided tour of a local archaeological site, a simulated dig, a lecture or a classroom visit from an archaeologist, the interactive, hands-on National Archaeology Day programs provide the chance to indulge your inner Indiana Jones. Join the the New Jersey State Museum’s own archaeologists for a variety of free programs and activities.
Timed Programs:
10-10:50 am Archaeology/Ethnography exhibitions tour
11-11:40 am Asst. Curator Gregory Lattanzi will discuss the "Archaeology of New Jersey”
in this kid friendly talk.
12 noon-12:50 pm Archaeology/Ethnography exhibitions tour
1-1:50 pm "Raritan Landing: A Road to the Past," a film on archaeology in New Jersey
2-3:50 pm Archaeology/Ethnography exhibitions tour
4-4:40 pm Archaeology/Ethnography exhibitions tour
On Going Programs:
10 am-4:30 pm Pottery “reconstruction” interactive table
10 am-4:30 Prehistoric artifact identification table
11 am- 3 pm Archaeological Society of New Jersey table
10 am-4:30 pm Scavenger hunt focused on the Archaeology/Ethnography exhibitions
