Developing International Geoarchaeology conference 2013 and International Workshop on Archaeological Soil Micromorphology Basel, Switzerland, 2nd to 6th September 2013

1st Circular

We are happy to announce that the next Developing International Geoarchaeology (DIG) conference will be held at the University of Basel, Switzerland, on September 5th to 6th 2013 directly following the annual Workshop of the Working Group on Archaeological Soil Micromorphology from September 2nd to 4th 2013.
Both events will be organized by the IPAS - Integrative Prehistory and Archaeological Science at the Department of Environmental Science Department, University of Basel.

The workshop will follow the tradition of workshops of the International Archaeological Soil Micromorphology Working Group: significant time and emphasis will be given to informal exchange of ideas and experience during microscopy sessions. For this purpose two rooms with altogether c. 25 polarizing microscopes will be available. One session will be devoted to short oral presentations related to participants’ thin sections which are to be explained and discussed during the workshop.

After the workshop there will be an excursion focused on sedimentary and archaeological sequences in outcrops and excavations in the Basel region. All profiles are well documented, some also by micromorphology.

The DIG conference will be held over the days following the workshop, consisting of two days of oral presentations and a poster session. There will also be time for a short visit to the thin sectioning lab.
Further information regarding the venue, the topic of the conference, abstract submission, accommodation and excursion will be published in the 2nd announcement in February 2013. Details will also be published at the same time on the conference website:
