As the general cultural resource volunteer for Sitka National Historical Park, you will work in cooperation with the Chief of Resource Management and other park staff on cultural resource projects in the park. You will be responsible for working on historical, archeological, landscape, and structural studies, surveys, and maintenance and rehabilitation projects. Such duties include: surveying archeological sites for damage, conducting historical research and summarizing publications, photographing cultural resources for publications and interpretive materials, and GIS/GPS mapping.

Qualifications: Must possess some experience or education in anthropology, archeology, history, historic preservation, landscape architecture, or cultural resources management, with a degree in one of these disciplines being ideal. You must be able to work in adverse weather conditions and in cool, high humidity weather, or in a library environment for prolonged periods of concentrated effort. About half of the work is performed in the field, often on uneven terrain with poor footing; moderate-to-heavy lifting may be required. If you drive a government vehicle, you must have a valid driver’s license.
