This is an OPEN COMPETITIVE Examination being conducted under Delegated Examining Unit Authority.  Applications will be accepted from United States citizens.
This is a TERM appointment with an initial appointment of up to 1 year that may be extended for an additional 3 years to allow for a maximum of 4 years.
This position is seasonal in nature and does not provide for employment on a year-round basis.  Employee will work at least 26 weeks.

Big South Fork National River and Recreation Area, Park Headquarters, is located between Oneida, TN and Jamestown, TN; Stearns, KY is located 15 miles north of Oneida, TN and 3 miles South of Whitley City, KY.  Housing, shopping, churches, medical clinics, hospital, elementary, high schools, and community college are available.   The nearest metropolitan area is Knoxville, TN (approximately 75 miles from Park Headquarters).  The climate is moderate with summer highs in the 90's and winter lows may reach 0 degrees.  Precipitation averages 51 inches annually.  Average snowfalls are 1-6 inches and last only a few days.  The Big South Fork NRRA is a 125,000 acre natural area with three (3) developed campgrounds; numerous picnic areas; backcountry camping, and over 400 miles of various trails from horse to bike to hiking.  Also present is a major river with up to Class V rapids and six (6) boat ramps and launches.

 The incumbent will work directly under the Park Cultural Resource Management Specialist on a variety of activities including conducting Section 106 testing and evaluation and archeological site survey.  The incumbent will input information into databases, produce reports, and evaluate cultural resources as directed.  The incumbent will also perform collection management duties as necessary which may include cataloging, report preparation, and object preservation tasks.  The incumbent will perform condition surveys of historic structures and cultural landscapes and will document necessary repairs or needed preservation actions.  The incumbent will often be required to work alone in remote areas and be required to act dynamically in response to changing conditions.  Additionally, the incumbent will work with an interdisciplinary team to meet objectives as defined by the Cultural Resource Management Specialist.
