Responsible for performing unskilled and semi-skilled tasks at archeological field sites. Assists crew chief with excavating, screening soil, floating soil samples, preparing sketch maps and forms, and back-filling excavated areas. Walks over project site searching for archeological materials. Cleans, packages labels, and catalogs artifacts. Does field photography. Conducts simple surveys using compass, topographical maps and aerial photographs. Records information on site survey forms and prepares simple reports. Maintains field equipment and supplies.
Candidate must be able to perform archaeological surveys in extreme weather conditions in harsh desert environments. Candidate must have experience identifying prehistoric and historic cultural artifacts and features common in the southwest United States.
Candidate must have a minimum of two years of field experience.
Candidate must possess a degree in anthropology or archaeology.
Preference will be given to local candidates.
