Job Responsibilities:
Golder Associates is seeking a Senior Cultural Heritage Specialist for the Ontario Region, who specializes in environmental heritage work to understand human actions on past environments in order to assess the modern implications of these impacts.
The successful candidate for this position will collaborate with a small, dedicated group in our London office with the mandate to expand the demand for cultural heritage services both within the company and to external clients.
Recent projects undertaken have been as diverse as environmental assessments for a pipeline corridor in eastern Ontario and a prospective mine site in Northern Ontario, heritage impact assessments for 19th century houses on lands slated for urban development, Section 106 compliance for a railway bridge replacement in Wisconsin, and photo documentation of historic highway bridges prior to replacement.
In addition to expanding cultural heritage services both internally in Golder and to potential external clients, primary responsibilities will be to provide technical review, mentoring of junior staff and to respond to new market opportunities. The candidate will participate in proposal and report writing. The candidate will also manage a variety of administrative tasks including monitoring and evaluating staff performance. Projects will be concentrated primarily in Ontario but may also be undertaken across Canada and the United States.
Excellent written and oral communications skills are essential to this position. The candidate will be interacting with a variety of people including:
* Company employees that will be senior, collegial, and junior to the position;
* Clients in which listening to their needs and articulating Golder services are critical;
* Members of the public in which discretion, respect and tact are essential; and,
* Regulators/tribunals/etc. in which negotiating skills are necessary.
Job Requirements:
The successful candidate will possess the following qualifications:
* A Master's degree in Environmental History, Historical Geography, Industrial Archaeology, or other degree allied with the field of Heritage Planning;
* 10 years (minimum) of heritage planning experience, of which at least 5 years must be in the private sector, preferably in a fast-paced consulting environment;
* Familiarity with relevant legislation, regulations and standards for Ontario, and ideally some knowledge for the rest of Canada and the United States; and,
* The successful candidate should have no restrictions on working in Canada and United States.
Golder may consider candidates who do not meet all of the previous experience responsibilities but who can articulate a clear understanding of the position needs relative to the consulting environment combined with sufficient technical expertise and practical knowledge to succeed in the role. Golder is seeking an exceptional individual that has a demonstrated interest in cultural heritage and its application to engineering/environmental situations and who can demonstrate relevant experience in the private sector.
