Devils Tower National Monument, located in northeastern Wyoming, is the nation’s first national monument, established in 1906.  The park consists of 1,347 acres of ponderosa pine forest and grasslands, 7 miles of hiking trails, a campground, and picnic area.  The monument preserves Devils Tower, an 867-foot column of igneous rock, prehistoric/historic cultural resources, and biological and physical natural resources.  The park lies within the Black Hills and attracts 400,000 visitors annually.  The climate is usually mild; temperatures can range from the mid 90’s in the summer and to below zero in the winter.  The three closest communities, Hulett (9 miles), Sundance (28 miles), and Moorcroft (30 miles), have basic services.  The larger communities of Spearfish, SD and Gillette, WY are approximately 1 hour away with many services.  Additional information can be found at www.nps.gov/deto.
Government housing may be available. Housing is generally shared, either in single dwellings or dormitory style. Deductions for government quarters are made from the employee's paycheck. Seasonal employees occupying government housing at either park are not permitted to have pets.
