The HR Customer Services and Solutions group is currently accepting applications to fill up to 3 temporary positions at Mount Rushmore National Memorial. Appointments made under this announcement are limited to 1039 hours (six months) in a service year and may be terminated at any time. Appointments under this announcement are eligible for rehire and/or extension (when initial appointment is less than 1039 hours) if workload and funding allow. Individuals selected under this vacancy announcement are eligible for rehire in subsequent service years. Anticipated Entry on Duty: May 2015

Mount Rushmore National Memorial is located three miles west of Keystone, South Dakota, in the Black Hills of southwestern South Dakota.  Housing for purchase or rent, schools, medical and dental facilities, churches of most faiths, and shopping are available in Rapid City, 25 miles northeast of Park Headquarters, and in nearby Hill City and Custer.
This announcement is being advertised under delegated examining procedures and is open to all U.S. citizens.
This announcement may be used to fill additional positions if identical vacancies occur within 90 days of the issue date of the referral certificate.

The selected individual/s, research and prepare cultural demonstrations and through the use and creation of appropriate cultural items, demonstrate the traditional lifestyles of the Black Hills native cultures. Provides information to other staff members for their own program development. Demonstrations are done informally throughout the day, as well as during structured, formal interpretive presentations. Interpreter will also create and present a conducted activity and/or interpretive talk, an interpretive demonstration, and children's programs among other programs that are short in duration. Provide information and directions in the park's information center, sculptor's studio, and interpretive center. Opens and closes facilities; maintains supplies and brochures about the Memorial and surrounding attractions. May also work in the visitor center, information center, studio or information desk. Informs visitors about park facilities and resources, and provide assistance during emergency situations.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:   The work involves extensive periods of standing and walking, in some cases over rough surfaces or inclines, carrying backpacks, tools, rescue equipment, etc.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:   The work is performed in settings in which there is regular and recurring exposure to moderate discomforts and unpleasantness, e.g., high or low temperatures, confined spaces or adverse weather conditions.
