Field Leads & Technicians Needed Central North Dakota


Merjent is a professional environmental consulting company specializing in the energy industry. Our Field Services division has several seasonal/temporary openings working on a Phase I Pipeline in Western North Dakota.  Crews are planned to mobilize Thursday April 9, 2015, with continuous work expected through the end of May 2015.



· Schedule On: Monday – Saturday; 10 hour days

· Schedule Off: Sunday

· Hourly Position; Overtime paid for all hours worked over 40

· Per Diem: $46.00/day for days worked (per diem is deposited bi-weekly; no receipts needed)

· Lodging: Single Occupancy Hotel Room



Under the supervision of the Principal Investigator(s), the Field Lead is responsible for the oversight and direction of all archaeological field investigations conducted by members of their field crew and implementing field procedures established by Merjent.


· Leads Phase I survey, determines types of appropriate survey coverage within the project area

· Completes field documentation and technical site mapping

· Maintains all field records and paperwork

· Works with GPS Technician to ensure accurate digital recordation of survey coverage type

· Responsible for the overall safety of the field crew and ensures adherence to all project safety protocols


· Minimum of a Bachelors degree in archaeology, anthropology or related science.

· Preference is given to candidates that meet the Secretary of the Interiors Standards for archaeology as well as those experienced with the use of GPS units for field work

· Demonstrated experience overseeing and supervising cultural resource field surveys and survey crews

· Detail oriented, organized, and able to meet deadlines on fast-paced projects

· Preference will be given to those experienced with Trimble Geo Explorer units, Terra Sync and Prior experience operating GPS units for archaeological field work.

· Minimum of 1-3 years of experience in a similar capacity conducting fieldwork.



Under the supervision of the Field Lead for Phase I survey, the Field Technician is responsible for performing common tasks associated with archaeological investigations and surveys within the archaeological project area.


· Perform pedestrian walkover survey, controlled surface survey, and hand excavation (shovel testing)

· Complete field-related paperwork including but not limited to recordation of excavated shovel tests, plan view and profile drawing.

· May assist in technical site mapping, photography and artifact collection


· Minimum of a Bachelors degree in archaeology, anthropology or related science

· Successful completion of an archaeological field school

· Minimum of 1 year of experience in a similar capacity conducting fieldwork.



This position requires job candidates (after a conditional offer of employment), employees, and sub-contractors to abide by Merjent’s written Drug, Alcohol, and Contraband Policy which includes satisfactory test results of pre-employment drug and alcohol screening.



Due to the physical requirements of this position job candidates will be asked to complete a preplacement physical. The results of this physical are a condition of employment. A physician of occupational medicine will review your health history including allergies, vital signs, and perform a physical exam in accordance with the job description to ensure your ability to perform the requirements of this job safely.
