A challenging and rewarding opportunity has arisen for a successful manager to lead the cultural heritage program for the Kuruma Marthudunera Aboriginal Corporation (KMAC).  Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer as part of the management team, the role is based in our Karratha office.
KMAC was established in 2013 as a corporate entity for the Kuruma and Marthudunera people. The Kuruma and Marthudunera people have traditional rights to an area covering nearly 16,000 square kilometres in the Pilbara region of Western Australia. KMAC is pivotal in progressing the broader interests of the Kuruma and Marthudunera people and in representing them in their dealings with governments and private industry.  KMAC's strategic focus is to work together as a community to establish a solid foundation towards independence, community wellbeing and cultural identity.   
The Cultural Heritage team manages cultural heritage services for and on behalf of the K&M people.  This includes managing heritage surveys, cultural awareness training, managing compliance with native title agreements, liaising with resource companies and relevant government agencies, and managing the preservation of artefacts and traditional cultural knowledge.
Our ideal candidate will have:
Relevant tertiary qualifications (e.g. anthropology, archaeology)
Significant experience and demonstrated achievements in the management of cultural heritage issues.
Experience in strategic land and resource planning, including a demonstrated ability to conduct cultural heritage audits and develop plans that secure social, cultural, environmental and economic benefits.
Working knowledge of Aboriginal community aspirations and cultural resource management practices.
Strong skills in planning, managing and evaluating projects and programs.
 Highly developed communication, influencing and advocacy skills, with a demonstrated ability to develop strong working relationships with a range of key stakeholders.
Experience in managing and developing a team.
A level of 'cultural intelligence' including an understanding of and previous experience working with indigenous communities.

A competitive remuneration package which may include housing support will be negotiated with the successful candidate.   Note that KMAC roles are offered on a fixed term contract basis.
