NOTE: THIS POSITION IS PERMANENT FULL-TIME SEASONAL AND SUBJECT TO PLACEMENT IN NON-PAY STATUS WHEN SERVICES ARE NOT NEEDED DUE TO LACK OF WORK, FUNDS, OR UNFORSEEN CIRCUMSTANCES.  POSITION IS BEING ADVERTISED UNDER MERIT PROMOTION ANNOUNCEMENT NUMBER JU-17-16 READVERTISEMENT.  STATUS APPLICANTS WHO WISH TO BE CONSIDERED UNDER BOTH MERIT PROMOTION AND COMPETITIVE PROCEDURES MUST SUBMIT TWO COMPLETE APPLICATIONS.
Preference in filling vacancies is given to qualified Indian candidates in accordance with the Indian Preference Act of 1934 (Title 25, USC, Section 472). Verification of Form BIA-4432 must be submitted with the application if claiming Indian Preference.

FORMER FEDERAL EMPLOYEES:  Former Federal Employees are required to indicate whether they received a Voluntary Separation Incentive Payment (VSIP) buyout in their previous employment with the Federal government, and are required to submit a copy of the applicable Notification of Personnel Action (SF-50) regarding the VSIP.  The majority of individuals, who accept reemployment with the Federal government within 5 years of receiving the VSIP amount, must repay the gross amount of the separation pay prior to reemployment. 
Additional selections may be made from this announcement if identical vacancies occur within 90 days from the closing date.
Duties
SUMMARY OF DUTIES:
Performs archeological Section 106 compliance surveys of Alaska Native restricted lands involved in Bureau and Departmental projects and actions.

Carries out archeological survey and testing to identify known and newly discovered archeological sites and to evaluate their eligibility for inclusion in the National Register of Historic Places.

Keeps extensive and accurate field notes concerning cultural and natural features including site topography and vegetation; extent of boundaries and nature of archeological features; association and provenances of features, artifacts, and profiles of soil strata.

Drafts site maps based on field notes. Conducts library and archival research on site areas prior to, during, and after fieldwork to compile data for use in field planning, analysis and report writing. Prepares organized and comprehensive written reports on all surveyed lands. 
Responsible for preparation of field notes, field survey and site reports, excavation reports, oral history data, artifact collections, and associated materials for disposition and curation at the National Archives or other repositories.
