Our Phoenix, Camelback office is seeking a qualified candidate for the position of Cultural Resource Specialist 2. The selected candidate will support HDR’s Section 106 compliance activities in support of a variety of development projects across Arizona and the greater Southwest.
 
The ideal candidate will have demonstrated knowledge of Arizona prehistory and history and material culture; demonstrated experience writing technical reports, and, ability to write at a professional level. Candidates should have demonstrated understanding of Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA), experience conducting and supervising fieldwork, research, interpretation of field data, QC reviews, and the regulatory framework for cultural resource management in Arizona.  The candidate will have strong communication skills and the ability to work closely with clients, contractors, and fellow employees.
 
Candidates must be able to perform physically demanding tasks in adverse environmental conditions (e.g., rugged terrain, remote locations, hot and cold temperatures).  Candidates should also have good organizational skills, a positive attitude, strong work ethic, and willingness to learn and execute new tasks.
 
Other requirements include the ability to:
  • Supervise field crews in archaeological survey, testing, and data recovery
  • perform archaeological fieldwork independently
  • write and review technical reports at a professional level
  • make initial site evaluations and recommendations for significance, effect, and treatment
  • travel with overnight stays for extended periods out of town
  • demonstrate a commitment to data confidentiality agreements and professional ethics standards
  • demonstrate an interest and willingness to learn and accept increasing responsibility for tasks
  • conduct site file searches at federal, state, and private repositories
  • prepare research designs, agreement documents, tribal involvement plans, management plans, and Historic Property Treatment Plans.
  • operate hand-held GPS units;
  • sit and use a computer for extended periods on a daily basis
Required Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, or a related field
  • Meet Secretary of Interior qualifications
  • A minimum of five years’ cultural resource management experience in Arizona or adjacent states
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must
 
Preferred Qualifications
  • GIS software experience
  • Experience with transportation projects
