Field Technicians Needed for Phase II Testing Project in Texas


HDR, Inc. is in need of archaeological field technicians for Phase II work in Texas scheduled to begin early September. The project is expected to last 3 to 4 weeks.

Responsibilities: Archaeological Field Technicians are responsible for excavating test units; site documentation, which includes feature and artifact identification and analyses; site descriptions; photographs; and mapping.  Archaeological field technicians are required to perform the following tasks in the field:

·               Excavate 1 x 1 m test units

·               Identify historic, prehistoric artifacts and features correctly

·               Complete sketch maps of features and units

·               Complete field forms accurately and concisely

·               Use Trimble GPS units

·               Photograph resources

Qualifications:  Qualified candidates should possess, at minimum, a bachelor's degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, or a related field and have completed an accredited archaeological field school.  Candidates must have experience identifying and recording prehistoric and historic resources within the Southern Plains and Gulf Coast regions. Candidates must also have a minimum of 2 years of field experience (e.g., survey, testing, and data recovery). Prior Phase II/III experience preferred. Candidates must be able to perform physically demanding tasks in adverse environmental conditions (e.g., rugged terrain, remote locations, hot and cold temperatures).  Candidates should also have good organizational skills, a positive attitude, strong work ethic, and willingness to learn and execute new tasks.  Please do not apply unless you are available to begin work in early September.
