Responsibilities/Job Purpose:

 

Meet client needs and achieve project profitability by representing Atwell in all communications with the client, communicating with Atwell management, and assembling and managing Atwell project team and progress. The Archaeological Project Manager is responsible to analyze design, client requirements, and performance standards and foster relationship with clients to develop future business.

 

Typical Duties:

§  Conduct and lead archaeological site investigations at all levels from survey through test excavation and stratigraphic analyses.

§  Manage data collection, record keeping, photo documentation, general observation assistance, and data input and assisting in the production of Archaeological/Cultural reports.

§  Manage all archaeological and cultural construction activities on a variety of projects.

§  Preliminary assistance in federal, state and local permitting projects.

§  Manage and assist with NHPA Section 106 compliance.

§  Assist with drafting agency and tribal consultation letters.

§  Assist with historical research to support the ecological and environmental teams on projects requiring archaeological and/or cultural components.

§  Assist in conducting internal and external research by reviewing historical and current resources such as federal, state and local historical/archaeological/cultural records, zoning information, city and township ordinance, surveys, aerial photographs, maps, site visits, and the internet.

§  Prepare draft summaries, figures, and graphs by tabulating analytical data, site data, and field notes at the direction of the project team.

§  Determine timeframes, budgets, staffing, and project schedule

§  Negotiate and contract with approved sub-consultants

§  Establish annual Project Manager Business plan, Establish project objectives and Develop project proposal

Skills & Knowledge / Education & Experience:

§  10 + years of experience in Archaeology consulting or agency experience

§  Graduate degree in Archaeology, Anthropology (or closely related field from an accredited institution).

§  Registered Professional Archaeologists (RPA) status is preferred.

§  Strong local market knowledge and business development contacts.

§  Supervise all aspects of cultural resources survey, site recording and evaluations, research, and archaeological testing and data recovery.

§  Familiarity with the completion of survey and excavation forms, operating GPS units, preparing reports and NRHP recommendations, and conducting quality control/quality assurance reviews of data

§  Experience managing and mentoring other employees.

§  Knowledge of Arizona federal and state cultural resources regulations, the ability to coordinate and communicate with agencies and clients, experience preparing proposals and cost estimates, and experience managing budgets and schedules.

§  Required to hold a Principle Investigator status in the State of Arizona and must qualify for and be able to obtain an Arizona Antiquities Act (AAA) Blanket Permit or Project-specific Permit from the Arizona State Museum
