AmaTerra Environmental, Inc. (AmaTerra), an award-winning, woman-owned, small disadvantaged firm headquartered in Austin, Texas, is seeking a full-time, permanent Senior Principal Investigator (PI) for archaeology projects. The successful applicant will work alongside our existing staff of six PIs, ten Project Archaeologists, and four historians in serving a variety of federal, state, municipal and private clients. Candidates must have an advanced degree in anthropology, archaeology or a closely related field and 15 or more years of professional archaeological experience including at least five years as a PI. Candidates must also demonstrate a substantial publishing/reporting record, excellent oral and written communication skills, and a thorough working knowledge of federal and state laws, regulations and guidelines pertaining to cultural resources. Significant experience in Texas, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Louisiana, and/or Arkansas is preferred; experience in other locations, including existing client contacts, is advantageous. The ability to develop and maintain business relationships is required. Experience working with/for federal agencies is desirable. Knowledge of and experience with current technologies of electronic data collection, analysis, reduction, display, and reporting are essential. Specific research interests and/or technical skills such as remote sensing, faunal analysis, lithic technology, the historic period, or geomorphology are welcome.

Job responsibilities include the ability to plan, implement, conduct, report, and complete archeological research including field investigations, laboratory analyses and synthesis of data. Will interact with a variety of clients, agency staff, professional colleagues, and fellow workers. Will direct and manage multiple projects simultaneously and directly and indirectly supervise multiple teams of other archaeologists and historians. Will be responsible for ensuring scientific quality of projects, ensuring compliance with applicable statutes and regulations, and for maintaining schedules and budgets.
