Field Technicians - OH, WV, PA

Gray & Pape, Inc. is looking for field technicians for Phase I and Phase II projects in the Midwest.  Work is scheduled to begin immediately and last 2 weeks.  Individual hotel rooms will be provided and per diem is $36/day for eligible persons. ARCHAEOLOGICAL TECHNICIAN

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

1.     Executes Phase I survey using standard archaeological survey and excavation techniques and tools.

2.     Identifies artifacts and potential artifacts, cultural features and significant natural conditions.

3.     Recognizes conditions that may require reevaluation of strategy or additional investigation.

4.     Maintains an accurate record of excavation and survey field work.

5.     Performs required physical work in adverse environmental conditions.

6.     Performs a range of tasks that require adhering to a consistent standard.

7.     Consulates with co-workers and/or the field supervisor for clarification.

8.  Maintains workable relations with other members of the crew.

9.  Other functions that may be assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

1.     B.A./B.S. in Anthropology or related field (with prior coursework in, or demonstrated knowledge of, archaeology, prehistory and history) plus archaeological field school experience

2.   Field school experience or a minimum 12 months CRM experience

3.     Familiarity with the common systems of maintaining provenience (grid layout, piece-plotting, natural versus arbitrary stratigraphy, pacing and compass work, and transect work).

4.     Legible handwriting and note-taking skills.

5.     Demonstrated work reliability

6.     Ability to follow instructions.

Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job:

·         The employee must be able to walk up to 10 miles per day over uneven, sometimes steep, heavily vegetated terrain carrying up to 25 lbs. of equipment.

·         The employee must be able to systematically excavate natural soil strata using hand tools to include shovels and trowels.

·         While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel.

·         The employee frequently is required to walk, sit, talk, and hear.

·         The employee is occasionally required to stand; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.

·         The employee must occasionally lift and/ or move up to 60 pounds.

·         Specific vision abilities required by this job include, close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

·         Will be required to perform other duties as requested, directed or assigned.
