Cultural Resource Field Director

Established in 1999, Transcon Environmental, Inc., offers environmental consulting services throughout the western United States with offices in Arizona, California, and Utah. Our highly successful team of environmental planners, biologists, and archaeologists provides environmental planning, permitting, and compliance services as well as infrastructure siting, Class I and Class III studies, Historic Property Treatment Plans, and environmental construction management and monitoring.

We are seeking a full-time archaeologist for our office located in Mesa, Arizona.  The employee should be available to conduct fieldwork in Arizona, Utah, Nevada, California, and New Mexico. Primary duties include report writing, leading and coordinating surveys and testing projects, records searches, and marketing. Fieldwork will include both one-day and multiple-day assignments.


·        Graduate degree in archaeology, or closely related field

·        Proficiency in Arizona, Utah, and Nevada prehistoric or historic archaeology

·         At least five years of full-time professional experience in archaeological research or cultural resource management

·        Ability to perform work duties independently with short deadlines

·        Ability to manage field crews and work with other disciplines

·        Highly organized, motivated, thorough, accurate, dependable, and trustworthy

·        Strong writing and editing skills

·        Ability to obtain permits as a Project Director in Arizona and Utah for federal and state agencies (Bureau of Land Management, state offices, US Forests, and Bureau of Reclamation)

·       Ability to interact with State Historic Preservation Offices and Tribal Historic Preservation Offices

·        Ability to participate in marketing activities including conferences and proposal development

·       Excellent navigational skills and a good driving record



·         Strong writing skills

·         Experience driving a four-wheeled drive vehicle off-road or in rough terrain

·         Familiarity with typical electrical utility operations and maintenance activities

·         Experience working around heavy machinery and communicating with construction crews

·         Proficiency with sub-meter GPS

·         Ability to manage crews


This position is exempt (salary), and eligible for full benefits. On multiple day assignments, the employee will be reimbursed for meals and lodging. We anticipate that employment will begin in February 2018. Applicants must have a clean driving record for at least five years prior to the start of work. Offers of employment will be contingent on the candidate passing drug and alcohol testing.
