Crew Chief - Fairfax County Park Authority

The Archaeology and Collections Branch of the Fairfax County Park Authority (FCPA) seeks a crew chief to assist with archaeological investigations.  Duties include supervision of field technicians under the oversight of a field director on larger, more complex projects.  For smaller projects, the crew chief will directly supervise field technicians and be responsible for successful completion of the project, reporting to a field director or principle investigator.  The FCPA archaeological program is public, engaging the interested public, working with volunteers with a range of experience, and assisting with children’s summer archaeology camps.  Successful completion of an archaeological field school, a BA/BS in an appropriate field, and experience in Middle Atlantic archaeology are required.  Preference will be given to applicants with prior supervisory experience, knowledge of ArcGIS, MS Access, and/or report preparation.  This position is classified as a Limited Term Employee and is not eligible for paid holidays, paid vacation, or retirement.  Work is limited to 1560 hours per year (approximately 9 months). Funding for relocation is not available.  A range of medical benefits are available for purchase through Fairfax County at a reasonable price.  Compensation is $24.00/hr.  All work is local; no per diem is available.  In general, the work schedule is Tuesday through Saturday.  Currently this position is funded for at least one year.
