Archaeological Field Technician – Colorado/Wyoming

Location: Denver area, Colorado and Douglas, Wyoming

PaleoWest is seeking an on-call archaeological field technician to complete project work on an as-needed basis, primarily for its Denver-area Rocky Mountain office. Project assignments for this position will involve travel to the Douglas, Wyoming area and potentially throughout Colorado. Enthusiasm for camping in remote mountain locations with like-minded people is also desired. Depending on the applicant’s skills, the position may also involve office-based reporting related to the field projects he/she completes. This is a part-time, hourly position without benefits.


The successful candidate will be required to:

·        Assist with larger projects as part of a multi-person crew

·        Help to record diverse kinds of prehistoric and historic sites and isolated finds

·        If needed, help to write resource forms and/or reports related to field projects



At least one year of experience in archaeology is required. The ideal candidate will have at least some experience conducting archaeological inventories and/or some experience conducting any kind of archaeology in Wyoming and/or Colorado. The ideal candidate will have experience with iPhones and/or iPads, Microsoft Word and Excel, and technical report writing.

Required Skills:

The successful candidate must have a valid driver’s license and be able to work both with a team and independently. We seek applicants with the ability to hike and survey in high altitudes, often in inclement weather. The successful candidate must also demonstrate excellent attention to detail, a positive work ethic, reliability, and commitment to working in a team work environment.
