Immediate Opening for Northern CA Technician

Northern California Cultural Resources Technicians

 

 

Cogstone Resource Management Inc. is taking applications for a cultural resource technician who meets the Secretary of the Interior’s (SOI) Standards and Guidelines for Archaeology for a two week monitoring project in Fort Bidwell, California starting in two weeks.  Costs for mileage, lodging, and meals are included. SOI archaeologists from Oregon and Nevada are welcome to apply. Previous experience and knowledge of California prehistoric and historical archaeology is required.

 

Job Description

Cultural resources technicians provide technical support to professional archaeologists utilizing a basic understanding of anthropological and archaeological field techniques in connection with locating, testing, and evaluating cultural resource sites. Conducts pre-field research, field surveys, and site testing using a variety of reference materials. Search areas of proposed projects for evidence of historic and prehistoric remains. Determine exact location of sites and marks them on maps and aerial photographs. Insure that work assignments are carried out in a safe and timely manner according to established standards and procedures. Cleans and catalogs artifacts. Must be able to stand for ten hours although most projects work eight hour days. Ability to work well with construction crews and colleagues and to follow specific protocols is necessary.

 

Qualifications

•      Graduate degree in archaeology, anthropology, or closely related field

       At least one year of full-time professional experience or equivalent specialized training in archaeological research, administration, or management

       At least four months of supervised field and analytic experience in North American archaeology

•      Ability to conduct field work for long hours, in possible inclement weather conditions and the ability to carry equipment and supplies weighing up to 40 pounds

•      Applicant must have a valid driver’s license, good driving record, and their own vehicle

 

Skill Requirements

•      Confidence in the construction environment

•      Proficiency in use of tablets and standard office software

•      Excellent field notes

•      Ability to work independently with a diverse, multi-disciplinary team

•      Self-motivated with strong initiative

 

Compensation

Competitive pay rate is commensurate with education and experience.
