Archaeological Crew Chief - El Paso, Texas



QRI accepting applications for Supervisory Archaeologist (Crew Chief) for multiple surveys in the El Paso, Texas area. Crew Chiefs will perform field work and other tasks under the direction of a Project Supervisor, usually supervising a small field crew.


  • Direct and coordinate activities of an archaeological field crew
  • Direct work activities in accordance with the project scope, budget, agency requirements, and schedule
  • Plan and direct survey projects
  • Record and map sites using GPS units
  • Maintain accurate, organized, and legible project data, field notes, and production records
  • Provide recommendations to the Project Supervisor regarding the evaluation of sites


  • B.A. in Anthropology with appropriate experience,
  • M.A. or M.S. in Anthropology is desirable,
  • About two years of experience in the Southwest region of the United States,
  • Active First Aid/CPR certification (may be obtained after hiring)  
  • At least one year of experience supervising a field crew is preferred,
  • Familiarity with the TRU survey and recording method is a plus.

Successful candidate will be required to reside in El Paso or in the adjacent communities; per diem is not offered for this position. The position is hourly and project specific. A typical work week is four 10-hour days; however, we work around the Army training schedule so the workdays may be flexible when needed. The project durations are expected to be one to three months. The pay rate will be $19-20 per hour, depending on qualifications and experience.
