Archaeological Technicians in Virginia

Dovetail Cultural Resource Group is accepting applications for Archaeological Technicians available to work in and around Virginia throughout the winter, particularly in the Fort Pickett area, where we anticipate having projects through at least February. We need at least one person to start on Monday, December 2, and we anticipate needing additional techs over the course of the project. Hotel and per diem will be provided for non-local crew members during the workweek/work session.

Dovetail Cultural Resource Group is a woman-owned cultural resource management firm with offices in Fredericksburg, Virginia and Wilmington, Delaware, performing projects throughout the Mid-Atlantic. The primary responsibility of the Archaeological Technician is to perform archaeological fieldwork, though responsibilities may also extend to performing background research, working in the laboratory, or performing data entry or similar office tasks. Work is on a project-by-project basis. While schedules are generally Monday through Friday, some projects may be performed in 10-day work sessions (Tuesday through Thursday).

Minimum Qualifications: Completion of a Bachelor’s degree in anthropology, archaeology, or a closely related field and an accredited archaeological field school are preferred, though a minimum of four years of archaeological field experience within the cultural resource management industry may be substituted for education. Ability to dig, kneel, and crouch for extended periods of time, lift at least 40 pounds, and maintain adequate physical fitness to perform field tasks is critical, as is the ability to work outdoors in hot or cold temperatures, in conditions that may include wind, rain, and/or snow.

Please submit a cover letter (to include date available to start, as well as any geographic or date restrictions on availability), CV, and references to Nicki Sauvageau at Email or call (540-899-9170) with questions.
