Position Purpose

Conducts and/or leads cultural resource field inventories including survey, testing, excavation and construction monitoring.

Essential Functions 

  • Conduct, lead and supervise the fieldwork under direction of the principle investigator
  • Identify and accurately record archaeological and historic cultural resources.
  • Lead and supervise the field crews and collection of field data
  • Plans, organizes, coordinates, prioritizes, assigns and monitors the work of field crews
  • Perform and interpret lab analysis of artifacts
  • Maintain project correspondence with Principal Investigator
  • Completion of site forms and reports
  • Participate in meetings
  • Utilize effective written and oral communication

Responsibilities

  • Provide cultural resource management services for KLJ projects in a timely, accurate, and cost-effective manner
  • Begin to assist with planning, organizing, coordinating, prioritizing and monitoring client relations
  • Adhere to project budget and schedule
  • Stay current with industry trends
  • May provide quality control by reviewing work completed by Archaeologist I to ensure compliance with KLJ quality standards
  • May assist with schedules, reports and permits
  • May coordinate Class I file search inventories

Qualifications

  • Four-year degree in anthropology, archaeology, history or a related field
  • Completion of an accredited archaeological field school
  • Experience conducting CMR work in the region
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and be able to operate motorized vehicles

Preferred

  • A Master’s degree in anthropology, archaeology, history or a related field
  • At least 3 years regional experience is highly desired
  • GIS background is preferred
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Office Suite are highly desired

Relationships

The Archaeologist II receives general supervision from an Archaeologist III, department manager or the project manager.

Hours and Travel

This position requires the individual work 40 or more hours per week with 60% of the time spent in the field and 40% in the office.

  • Be able to walk on uneven terrain up to ten miles per day
  • Frequently lift and move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and move up to 75 pounds

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
