GIS Manager (Los Angeles or San Bernardino County-based)


Job Description. 
Paleo Solutions, Inc. (Paleo Solutions) is currently seeking a GIS Manager to maintain and continue to expand the GIS infrastructure. The GIS Manager will be responsible for overseeing the consistency and quality of geospatial products, accuracy of data, maintenance of databases, and delegation of GIS tasks. 
Paleo Solutions provides archaeological consulting services throughout California and Nevada, and paleontological consulting services throughout CA, AZ, NV, NM, CO, WY, MT, ID, OR, WA, and AK and is dutifully expanding into neighboring states as paleontological policies and regulations become enforced with additional aspirations of international paleontology work.  
The successful candidate can choose to work in our Monrovia, Los Angeles County office or Redlands, San Bernardino County office.

  • Full-time, salaried position: $70,500.00/year

Position Description & Responsibilities.
  • Oversee and facilitate the creation of report figures for various types of reports
  • Facilitate the creation of field maps and collection of field data (primarily through Esri Collector, Survey123, and a third-party field form app)
  • Perform geospatial analyses to assist in mitigation assessments
  • Work with subject matter experts to create field data collection schemas 
  • Work with third-party field form app developer to develop new forms and address any issues encountered by field staff
  • Maintain internal FileMaker Server and databases
  • Provide field support for GIS products and data collection
  • Maintain and track electronic field equipment through mobile device management systems 
  • Provide IT support to staff as needed
    • Updating iPad software/apps and pushing updates out to staff
    • Uploading software to new employee laptops
    • Assisting with technology purchases. 
    • Working/communicating with developers on internal field software/applications
  • Train field staff on how to use Survey 123, Esri Collector, and GNSS Receivers
    • Train and supervise GIS technicians across Paleo Solutions offices
Application Evaluation Criteria.
  • [Required] Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in Geography, Cartography, Archaeology, Geology, Environmental Science or related field with an emphasis in GIS (or GIS certificate)
  • [Required] At least 3-5 years of environmental consulting GIS experience
  • [Required] Experience in cultural or natural resource management (archaeology, geology, paleontology, or biology)
  • [Required] Experience with Esri products including ArcGIS Desktop, ArcGIS Online, Collector, Survey123
  • [Required] Effective time management and organizational skills
  • [Required] Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • [Preferred] Experience with Bluetooth GNSS receivers
  • [Preferred] Experience with FileMaker
  • [Preferred] Experience with training staff and working well with others
