Archaeological Technicians - Colorado


Espinoza Consulting Services (ECS) has immediate openings for multiple archaeological technicians to support projects in the southwest and Rocky Mountain states. Technician positions are seasonal, hourly, and based upon federal wage determinations (and GSA per diem). 

All candidates MUST have experience in Colorado. The most immediate needs are in Colorado. Travel is also an absolute requirement of employment. All positions will include housing and/or per diem at approved 2020 CONUS rates.

Archaeological Technician Requirements

Archaeological Technicians are responsible for conducting pedestrian survey, site documentation and possible site testing. Typical tasks include feature and artifact identification and analyses; excavating shovel test probes (STPs); completing site documentation/descriptions, mapping, and other site and project records.

Position requirements include:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Archaeology or Anthropology
  • A minimum of 18 months field experience in Colorado and/or New Mexico. Additional experience working at high altitudes (greater than 7,000 feet) may also be considered.
  • Must have the ability to:
  • Identify historic and prehistoric artifacts and features.
  • Conduct archaeological survey and testing.
  • Complete sketch maps of features and sites.
  • Complete field forms accurately and concisely.
  • Use a GPS unit to both document resources and navigate back country terrain.
  • Use compass, topographical map and aerial photographs to record resources and/or navigate (as needed).
  • Properly photograph resources using a DSLR
  • Perform physically demanding tasks in adverse environmental conditions (e.g., rugged terrain, remote locations, hot and cold temperatures). Most work will involve high altitude, back country, locations.
  • Walk 5+ miles a day
  • Lift up to 40 lbs
  • Must work effectively in a team environment.
  • Must possess good organizational skills, a positive attitude, strong work ethic, and willingness to learn and execute new tasks.
  • Must have a clean driver’s license.
