AmaTerra Environmental, Inc. (AmaTerra), an award-winning, woman-owned, small business is seeking an experienced Principal Investigator in Arkansas. The successful applicant will work alongside AmaTerra’s staff serving a variety of federal, state, municipal, and private clients. Applicants must have a graduate degree in anthropology, archaeology, or a closely related field and eight or more years of professional archaeological experience assisting, leading, and/or managing archaeological surveys, National Register testing and evaluation projects, and data recovery excavations. A minimum of four years of supervisory experience in archaeology is required.
Desired knowledge, skills and abilities include:
• Ability to plan and manage multiple archaeological projects simultaneously, including coordinating with clients, budgeting, invoicing, staffing, and overseeing field investigations, data and laboratory analysis, and report writing.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills, and the ability to work well with others.
• Extensive knowledge of Federal and State laws, regulations and guidelines pertaining to cultural resources.
• Experience in Arkansas, Oklahoma, Texas, Louisiana, and/or neighboring states Louisiana (preferred), but will consider experience conducting fieldwork and research in other parts of the United States.
• Experience with GPS technologies and other data collection methods.
• Specific research areas and/or skills such as remote sensing, faunal analysis, lithic technology, historic archaeology, or geomorphology.
• Excellent time management skills and the ability to work under minimal supervision.
Successful candidates must also be able to:
• overnight travel required (at least 50 percent).
• walk up to 10 miles a day.
• dig shovel tests to depths of up to one meter.
• ability to lift 50 pounds.
• work outdoors in potentially adverse weather conditions.
Job responsibilities will include planning and managing a variety of archaeological projects (including budgets), coordinating and/or leading field crews on various survey, testing and data recovery projects, coordination and oversight of data and laboratory analyses, report writing and editing, coordination with clients, agency officials and regulators, and working with junior and senior staff in AmaTerra Offices.
