Our staff expertise and technical capabilities enable us to provide a full range of cultural resources and historic preservation services, from management plan and predictive model development to compliance consultation and documentation.
Circa~ is seeking multiple qualified and energetic Field Archaeologists to assist our team with archaeological survey and excavation investigations throughout the Mid-Atlantic. Currently, we are looking for assistance with two Phase II evaluations in Williamsburg, Virginia. Preference will to given to individuals who live in the vicinity of Williamsburg, Virginia. We work four 10-hour days, with three-day weekends.
The team members will assist on surveys to identify and document archaeological sites and excavations to determine the National Register status of Native American and historic archaeological resources. The candidates will perform shovel tests, test unit excavation, document features, and other archaeological deposits, prepare site descriptions, photograph features and artifacts, prepare sketch maps of sites, and complete field forms completely and accurately.
Qualified archaeological field technician candidates should possess a bachelor’s degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, or a related field, have completed an accredited archaeological field school, or have at least three months of field experience. All candidates must be able to perform physically demanding tasks in adverse environmental conditions (e.g., rugged terrain, remote locations, hot and cold temperatures). Candidates are expected to hike cross-country while carrying personal equipment and supplies and carry out the physical effort to hand excavate shovel tests or test units. Candidates should have good organizational skills, a positive attitude, a strong work ethic, a willingness to learn, willing to take direction and work as part of a team. Pay will be commensurate with education and experience. These positions could become permanent for the ideal candidate.
