Atkins seeks an energetic and highly motivated self-starter to join our Austin, TX Cultural Resources Group as a Project Archaeologist (Part-time temporary that may transition to permanent). Under direction, applies full competency in conventional scientific solutions related to functional area of assignment and broad knowledge of precedents in specialty area. Plans and coordinates scientific work related to detailed phases of a major project.

How will you contribute to the team?
Serve as the Project Archeologist on a five or more months long NRHP Data Recovery of a Prehistoric Archeological site in Williamson County, Texas under the Principal Investigator. Projected to start date Fall of 2021.
Serve as an author on technical reports, research designs, and other technical documents.
Collaborate effectively with other cultural resource professionals, environmental professionals, engineers, and project managers.
Oversee technical aspects of field research, data collection, inventory, analysis, and final report production and ensuring it is conducted in accordance with the Atkins QA/QC protocol.
Supervise, mentor, and support field staff in all aspects of their responsibilities.
What will you contribute?
Master’s degree in Archeology or Anthropology with at least two years’ experience preferred or Bachelor’s degree with minimum five years’ experience
Knowledge of and experience in Texas Archeology
Experience as a Project Archeologist on prehistoric NRHP Testing or Data Recovery preferably
Experience with operating Total Data Station and GPS
Experience training archeological staff in appropriate field techniques, archeological best practices, and other duties
Experience directing and supervising field crews
Demonstrated knowledge and experience with National Historic Preservation Act regulations (including Section 106), the Antiquities Code of Texas, and other federal, state, and local regulatory requirements pertinent to cultural resources
Experience with NEPA studies including cultural resource components of Environmental Impact Statements and Environmental Assessments (EIS/EAs) is desirable.
Experience working in an archeological laboratory including analysis of artifacts and/or curation of records and artifacts is desirable
Opportunity for task management duties such as managing scopes and budgets, preparing proposals, interacting with clients, and managing field staff.
RPA certification is desirable
TxDOT precertification in 2.10.1 Archeological Surveys, Documentation, Excavations, Testing Reports, and Data Recovery Plans is preferable
Experience with a sufficient subset or combination of the following activities: Archeological investigations, surveys, testing, monitoring, and mitigation associated with cultural resource management projects and familiarity with collaborating with historians
Experience coordinating with SHPOs, THPOs, federal and state agency representatives, and landowners/managers regarding cultural resources is desirable
Experience developing project scopes and budgets for cultural resource task is desirable
Travel may be required per project requirements
Possession of a valid U.S. driver’s license and ability to drive a work truck
