Veterans Curation Program (VCP) Laboratory Manager

Directly Supervises: Veteran Laboratory Technicians
Status: 40 hrs/week, Monday-Friday
Location: VCP Laboratory, Alexandria, Virginia
Job Summary
New South Associates, Inc. is seeking applicants for a Laboratory Manager at the Alexandria, Virginia VCP laboratory to start in November. The VCP Laboratory Manager is responsible for the curation of archaeological and archival collections processed in the VCP lab. This position is responsible for ensuring archaeological lab technicians are successfully trained in lab methods and are receiving assistance that may help with their transition to the civilian workforce. Essential Functions
• Manage daily processing of federally-owned archaeological and archival collections
• Train technicians in collections processing including artifact identification and sorting, data entry, and report writing
• Prepare collections to federal and repository curation standards
• Perform administrative duties, including bi-weekly situational report writing
• Conduct quality control on archival databases, artifact catalogs, reports, photographs, and scans
• Support and provide professional advice and guidance to technicians, including resume building
• Represent the program to veteran service organizations, community members, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers personnel, and military representatives
• Hire and train technician candidates

Minimum Qualifications
• Bachelor’s Degree in Archaeology, Museum Studies, History, Historic Preservation or closely related field
• Field school or cultural resource management experience is preferred, but not required
Compensation and Benefits
• Hourly rate of approximately $28.11
• Federal Holidays; 13 Days Paid Leave; Paid Health/Dental/Life Insurance; 401k (after one year)
