The Pacific West Region is recruiting for TEMPORARY seasonal positions not to exceed 1039 hours work in a service year. Dates of employment will vary between park sites depending on funding, weather conditions and visitation. Within regulatory limitations, the length of initial appointment may be shortened or extended depending on work availability and funding.

Duties
Performs front country and backcountry fieldwork in a variety of weather conditions and environments such as construction in developed areas, remote mountainous settings, alpine settings, and designated wilderness areas.
Backpacking to remote field locations may require up to 5 nights of overnight travel on a monthly basis. Incumbent should be able to carry up to 45 pounds a minimum of 10 miles.
Fieldwork may include assessment of known sites, or new inventory and research. Shovel testing, excavation or monitoring may be required.
Incumbent may anticipate leading fieldwork excursions.
As part of the reporting requirements under the National Historic Preservation Act and National Park Service Policy, incumbent will also be tasked with the preparation of the following types of documentation including, but not limited to: Archeological Small Project Reports, Cultural Resource inventory Systems (CRIS), and site forms.
Will draft correspondence and complete archeological project packages for consultation.
Will track project assignments for initiation and completion.
Work with GIS software, variety of GPS field collection equipment and software and manipulation of data to produce accurate maps of sites and inventory survey.
Area Information: Yosemite National Park, California, known worldwide for its spectacular natural beauty is the backdrop for this position. Sitting astride the Sierra Nevada Mountains, the park covers 1,182 square miles of varied wilderness ecosystems, from river valleys to alpine meadows to lofty 13,000 foot high peaks. Yosemite Valley is located 208 miles from San Francisco, 81 miles from Merced, and 94 miles from Fresno. Shopping, medical, postal and laundry services are available in the park. Elevation at the Valley floor is approximately 4,000 feet and 2,200 feet in El Portal. The park is open year-round with the majority of activities occurring during the busy season March through October.
