Northern Land Use Research Alaska is seeking one seasonal Archaeological Technician – Faunal Analysis Specialist for a project anticipated to begin in early January 2022. This role will be expected to analyze and interpret faunal remains from Alaskan archaeological sites that range in date from the terminal Pleistocene to the Historic Period.
Required Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Archaeology or Anthropology.
- Specific demonstrable experience with identification and analysis of faunal remains in interior Alaska including, but not limited to, identification, analysis, and interpretation of all faunal materials for the project.
- Demonstrated successful report writing experience.
- Completion of a field school program.
- Master’s degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, or related field, or Master’s degree in progress in these fields.
Required skills include the ability to effectively conduct research activities, conduct appropriate aspects of fieldwork using appropriate field techniques, develop and maintain positive relationships, the ability to balance work schedules and demands, provide and receive feedback, seek to resolve conflict through communication and collaboration, and use effective verbal and written communication to listen and communicate effectively. Applicants must be proficient in the use of computer programs and database systems and have familiarity with the operations and use of cameras, GPS, and GIS equipment and software. Applicants should assume that most of their working hours will be spent in the field, weather permitting.
This position is seasonal and work in on-call, as needed and there is not a guarantee of a job offer or a guarantee of hours. Hours will depend on ongoing project availability.
