Job Opening – WRI Station Archeological Assistant
The Arkansas Archeological Survey invites applications for a full-time position as Archeological Assistant to begin February 4, 2022 or as soon as possible thereafter. This position is based at our WRI Research Station in Morrilton, Arkansas.
Summary of Job Duties:
Duties of the Archaeological Assistant include: fieldwork (some requiring in-state travel), collections processing and data analysis, record keeping, supervising volunteers in the laboratory and the field, and interaction with visitors and callers to the Station, all under the direction of the Research Station Archeologist.
Minimum Qualifications (applicable equivalencies may be considered):
- A Bachelor’s degree in anthropology or a related field from an accredited institution of higher education
- Archeological field experience in North America, east of the Rocky Mountains
- Archeological lab experience
- Experience in working with archeological records and collections
Preferred Qualifications:
- M.A. in Anthropology/Archeology from an accredited institution of higher education
- Experience with the use of total stations for mapping, and proficiency in using ArcGIS software
- Experience with the archeology of Southeastern North America
- Experience working with and writing for the public
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Knowledge of the general practice of North American archeology
- Knowledge of computers
- Skill in basic archeological field and lab procedures
- Ability to work with other staff, avocational archeologists, and the general public
- Ability to work independently and meet internal deadlines
