Denver, Colorado, is seeking a Supervisory Archaeologist for our Durango office for a fulltime
permanent position. We are a team of natural and cultural resource consultants with
offices in Denver, Durango, and Hotchkiss, Colorado. Our expertise in science and planning

Position Overview
The supervisory archaeologist is responsible for undertaking multiple project responsibilities,
including field direction and project management assistance, by applying the full suite of
technical skills in cultural resource management. The successful applicant is expected to
have the skills to perform the role of supervisory archaeologist for large projects and field
director for small projects. This position requires equal fieldwork and office responsibilities.
General tasks include serving as the supervisory archaeologist during fieldwork and directing
site documentation. Office responsibilities may include report preparation, directing site
form completion, and artifact processing and analysis.
The position requires working variable hours, including long days, early mornings, and
weekends; the fieldwork schedule varies. Overtime may be accrued and will be
compensated at time and a half. Fieldwork may require an 8-day on/6-day off schedule.
Applicants for this position are expected to be physically capable of performing fieldwork
tasks associated with survey, testing, and excavation.
Minimum Education and Experience
• Master’s degree in anthropology/archaeology specialization preferred
• 3 to 5 years of applicable experience through professional employment; at least 1
year of direct supervisory experience
• Meet Secretary of the Interior qualifications for archaeology
• Must be able to qualify for Bureau of Land Management and Forest Service permits
as a supervisory archaeologist
• Primary experience with the archaeology of the western U.S.
• Experience with Microsoft Office and Adobe products and using a Global Positioning
System unit and tablet
• Experience with National Environmental Policy Act impact assessments will be
considered a plus
Physical Requirements
The project areas may be located at high elevations in rugged terrain. Applicants must be
physically capable and possess the skills necessary to perform all aspects of fieldwork
including strenuous hiking with a backpack in rugged terrain up to 10 miles a day, collecting
digital data, completing standard resource forms, performing in-field artifact analysis, and
taking photographs.
Performance Expectations and Responsibilities
The successful applicant is expected to conduct assigned tasks safely, independently, and
efficiently under the supervision of a project manager or senior archaeologist. The ideal
candidate has written and verbal communication skills and is self-motivated, organized, and
detail oriented. Proficiency in leading field crews and identifying, documenting, and
evaluating cultural resources is a must.
Expected Job Responsibilities
• Direct, delegate, and ensure accurate site documentation, including the
completion of site forms, photography, and mapping
• Oversee a three-person crew
• Ensure the assigned crew stays on task
• Provide assistant field directorship
• Keep accurate and detailed field notes
• Perform accurate resource identification, interpretation, and National Register of
Historic Places evaluation
• Self-perform quality control on tasks and deliverables
• Ensure health and safety compliance
• Draft technical memorandums and technical reports
• Complete or direct completion of site forms using ERO’s Microsoft Access database
• Perform research to support reporting
• Coordinate or perform artifact washing, flotation, data entry, and artifact analysis
• Perform other tasks, as assigned
The hourly wage range is $22.00-$27.50, commensurate with experience. This position is in
ERO’s Durango office. ERO offers a very competitive compensation package that includes 10
hours/month paid time off (PTO) accrual (ERO provides additional PTO by closing our offices
between Christmas and New Year’s Day), seven holidays, sick leave, compensation time,
health and dental insurance (10 percent employee contribution), life insurance, long-term
disability, annual profit sharing, and a retirement (401k) plan (typically 5 percent match).
ERO provides stipends for a cell phone and field and office equipment. ERO also offers a
flexible work environment with minimum requirements for in-office work and opportunities
for advancement, including opportunities for Associate and Board-level ownership for the
right candidate. For the right candidate, ERO will consider reimbursement for moving
expenses.
