Everick Foundation’s Archaeology Field School is a unique resource for the field of archaeology education. The School is offered in both condensed or extended versions, and held in South East Queensland, Australia.
Designed for history and science teachers to complement the National and State curriculum, and for archaeology university students, to complement studies and align with The Australian Archaeological Skills Passport.
Overview
Practical training in archaeological methods, including:
- Tools for site prediction, including register searches, historic aerials, vegetations and soils mapping, site formation processes, and predictive modelling
- Survey techniques, including map reading, GPS and dumpy and ground penetrating radar
- Site grid trench layout
- Hand excavation, sieving for artefacts
- Artefact recovery, cataloguing and photography
- Stratigraphy and section drawing
- Field recording and drawing
- Historical context and overall site interpretation

Participants
- School content aimed at history and science teachers and university students studying archaeology.
- Maximum of fifteen participants per course.
- No previous archaeology experience is necessary.
- We welcome applications from anyone over the age of 18.
- Proof of COVID-19 vaccinations is required for all participants.
- A general level of fitness is necessary for archaeological excavations, such as walking short distances, walking up and down steps, kneeling, lifting buckets, and sitting on the ground. All activities will occur outdoors. Effort will be made to accommodate all levels of fitness and mobility.
