Summary
This position is located in Flagstaff Area National Monuments, in the Resource Stewardship & Science Division.
Career-Seasonal appointments are permanent positions and include the same benefits as Career appointments, but do not provide work on a year-round basis. You will work a minimum of 22 pay periods not to exceed 25 pay periods. You will be placed in a non-pay status for the remainder of the year.

Duties
This position is in the Resource Stewardship & Science Division of Flagstaff Area National Monuments, National Park Service, and supervised by the monument’s Resource Stewardship & Science Manager. The primary purpose of this position is to serve as the Flagstaff Area National Monument’s Section 106 compliance archeologist. He/she will master the National Historic Preservation Act, National Park Service Director’s Order 28 and other laws and policies related to the conservation of cultural resources and will perform consultation with the appropriate governments and agencies for monument undertakings. This position is in the Resource Stewardship & Science Division of Flagstaff Area National Monuments, National Park Service, and supervised by the monument’s Resource Stewardship & Science Manager. The primary purpose of this position is to serve as the Flagstaff Area National Monument’s Section 106 compliance archeologist. He/she will master the National Historic Preservation Act, National Park Service Director’s Order 28 and other laws and policies related to the conservation of cultural resources and will perform consultation with the appropriate governments and agencies for monument undertakings.
Major Duties GS-09: Duties will be developmental in nature when filled below the full performance level.
Apply Federal and State environmental laws, regulations, and policies to planning efforts to ensure compliance in cultural resources management project designs and processes.
Assist with coordinating park cultural resources strategies and programs with those on adjacent lands in accordance with protection strategies to minimize human impacts.
Basic knowledge of the laws, regulations, policies, and procedures that govern cultural resources management in order to provide advice and assistance to park staff concerning the implementation of NPS programs pertaining to the identification, preservation, and enhancement of cultural resources.
Conducts segments of archeological research for planning documents, including general management plans, resources management plans, environmental impact statements, environmental assessments, archeological overviews and assessments, and archeological field investigations of all types, as required to meet the needs of the park.
Manage administrative records for compliance projects.
Complete cultural compliance for NHPA streamline or 4-step process for all appropriate projects.
Incorporate appropriate GIS technology into all cultural resource project workflows.
Major Duties GS-11
Conduct archeological research for planning documents, including resources management plans, environmental impact statements, environmental assessments; Develop and prepare major written portions of the cultural resources for management planning and NEPA/NHPA documents.
Complete cultural compliance for NHPA streamline or 4-step process for all appropriate projects.
Perform consultation with the appropriate governments and agencies on park undertakings.
Incorporate appropriate GIS technology into all cultural resource project workflows.
