This position is located in Fire Island National Seashore, in the Cultural Resource Division.
The typical seasonal entry-on-duty period for Fire Island National Seashore is May – October, but can be variable during these months due to weather conditions, project needs, or funding. Anticipated Entry on Duty: May 2021
Position is required to provide the regularly scheduled day-to-day care of the park’s exhibited and stored collections. The park’s collections contain approximately 25,000 historic objects, 40,000 archival objects, 38,000 archeological objects and 1,500 natural history specimens. Approximately 8,000 objects are on permanent exhibit in the 25-room Old Mastic House. Additionally, National Park Service standards and goal require a variety of programs and reporting requirements for the Preservation and Protection of Museum Objects.
The Old Mastic House is open to the visiting public Memorial Day weekend through mid-November on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays and Holidays.
Position is required to provide the daily cleaning of the Old Mastic House as part of the routine Housekeeping procedures. The position is also required to perform regularly scheduled housekeeping of the museum collections storage facility.
The National Park Service has established goals for the reduction of the Catalog Backlog for all parks. Position is required to input and edit catalog records as part of this goal.
The National Park Service requires the Annual Inventory of Museum Property be completed each fiscal year. There are three inventories conducted for Accessions, Controlled Property and Random Sample. The inventories generally take approximately 320 hours to properly complete.
Site is required to perform monitoring of exhibit spaces for temperature, humidity, regular and UV light. Position is required to record readings for temperature, humidity, regular and UV light.
Position is required to maintain A.N.C.S. records, cross-referencing aids, finding aids and a variety of collections management documents.
