Starting at approximately $80K, pay increases with experience and skillset.
Who You Are
You are a highly qualified and experienced mid- to senior-level Archaeologist with five to ten years of experience in relevant scientific or environmental consulting environment. You can lead multi-faceted cultural resource-related evaluations, research, analyses for a growing group of cultural resources specialists within our Northwest Cultural Resources Group. This position will be in the greater Seattle area (preferred) or Portland.
You have excellent field, writing, time/budget management, and organizational capabilities; agency coordination and client service experience; proficiency in management of archaeological and tribal cultural resources within the context of SEPA, EO 21-02, and Section 106; experience with leading archaeological survey and testing projects, documentation, evaluation, and treatment of prehistoric and historic-period archaeological resources; and experience preparing EIS sections and developing mitigation.
You hold a bachelor’s degree or a graduate degree in archaeology or a closely related field. You meet the Secretary of the Interior’s professional qualifications for Archaeology, and are able to hold federal and Washington and Oregon state archaeological permits. You possess the ability to lead survey crews and produce well-written and technically supported cultural resources documents. You have the ability to work collaboratively with clients and interdisciplinary teams to deliver projects on time and within budget in a fast-paced work environment. You have excellent organizational and strong problem-solving skills.
You demonstrate a clear understanding of project management principles and practices and be responsible for the delivery of high-quality work products. You have the ability and desire to mentor junior staff members.
You are confident working outside, in remote and rural settings, as well as in urban environments. Physical outdoor work may include, but may not be limited to, extensive field work and site visits in all types of weather, traversing uneven ground and sometimes steep terrain in forested environments, fields, arid lands, along stream banks, and in coastal/intertidal areas. May be exposed to inclement weather and uncomfortable working conditions.
What You Will Do for ESA
You will manage and carry out archaeological research surveys and technical document preparation on a wide range of interesting projects throughout the region and practice, and will be part of an interdisciplinary team that includes staff from our Water, Energy, Community Development, Transportation, and Airports practices.
You will manage and conduct archival research, archaeological resources assessments, development of historic and cultural contexts, archaeological survey and resource documentation, resource evaluations, and impacts analysis meeting Section 106, EO 21-02, SEPA and other requirements. This will include collaborating with architectural historians, historians and other specialists to incorporate work products into technical reports.
You will serve as primary author of archaeological resource assessment reports and EIS sections. You will consistently demonstrate your solid writing skills and attentive listening skills and will participate in and/or lead client meetings. You will present at or provide support at community workshops and public hearings, effectively presenting complex technical information clearly and concisely.
You will supervise project teams, participate in and/or lead client meetings. You will prepare or assist with preparing draft scopes of work and budgets, including providing technical input, contributing to proposal writing, identifying opportunities, and engaging with proposal/interview teams. You may lead marketing and business development pursuits, including developing capture strategies.
You will provide mentorship and support for junior staff, including reviewing their work for accuracy and clarity and providing constructive feedback and career development guidance while working on projects together.
You will thrive in a fast-paced, challenging environment and be able to manage multiple responsibilities and deadlines while working on a team or independently.
