Moore Archeological Consulting (MAC) in Houston, Texas is seeking Archeological Field Technicians for assignment to upcoming survey and eligibility testing projects in Texas and Louisiana. Work related to this posting is anticipated to begin in August 2022 and last through the Spring of 2023. Archeological Field Technicians will assist MAC staff on upcoming field projects that include construction monitoring, shovel testing, and unit excavations in urban and rural settings.
Minimum Background Requirements for Field Technicians:
- Successful applicants will have earned a bachelor’s degree (or higher) from an accredited university and will have majored in Archeology, Anthropology or closely related field.
- Successful applicants will have a minimum six (6) months of relevant field experience or will have completed an accredited field school.
Minimum Skill and Experience Requirements for Field Technicians:
- Successful applicants will be familiar with field survey methods and will be expected to perform hand excavation.
- Successful applicants will be expected to document archeological field data accurately and efficiently when completing maps and forms.
- Successful applicants will have basic familiarity with the use of GPS equipment.
- Successful applicants will have experience with accurately identifying prehistoric and historic-age artifacts and archeological features.
- Previous archeological experience in central, east, or southeast Texas is preferred, but not required.
- Successful applicants will have a strong work ethic and be able to work effectively either independently or in a team setting.
Additional Requirements:
- Successful applicants must have a valid driver’s license and be able to pass a record screening.
- Successful applicants will have access to reliable transportation and be willing to travel to a work location.
- Successful applicants will be able to work outside for long hours in sometimes adverse weather, climate, and terrain conditions.
- Successful applicants will be able to work safely and efficiently while performing physically demanding tasks that may involve extensive walking and hiking outdoors.
- Successful applicants must be able to lift and carry up to 40 pounds of equipment and supplies.
- Successful applicants will commit to maintaining effective, courteous, and professional communication with coworkers, clients, and members of the community that they encounter while representing MAC.
Prior to employment, all candidates will be required to complete a pre-employment physical, which includes drug screening. Per diem and single occupancy hotel rooms will be provided for any projects where overnight travel is required. Most projects are anticipated to follow a Monday-Friday schedule with 8hr to 10hr workdays, but candidates should be willing to accommodate flexible schedules according to specific project needs. Occasional work on weekends may be required for some projects. Compensation may vary according to candidate qualifications, but well qualified candidates can expect to receive at least $18 per hour. All positions related to this posting are temporary and are being offered on a project-specific basis. High performing archeological field technicians will be eligible for additional work opportunities.
