Archaeological Technicians Needed (Temporary/Full-Time) – Southeastern US and Mid-Atlantic – New South Associates, Inc.
New South Associates, Inc. is accepting resumes for Archaeological Field Technicians. We have several large-scale projects starting this fall in various locations throughout the Southeast and Mid-Atlantic regions, and are anticipating staffing these project’s crews. Successful candidates will work alongside outstanding professionals in positive, inclusive environments.
The position requires considerable physical exertion, and the applicant must be capable of hiking for long periods of time through challenging terrain in outdoor heat and cold conditions. They must have the ability to lift up to 50 lbs, and excavate at least 1 cubic meter per day. They should have some experience in accurately recording field notes using both traditional and digital methods, recognizing historic and pre-contact artifacts, identifying above- and below-ground archaeological features, drawing sketch maps, and using GPS. Good communication skills and the ability to work well in a team environment are important.
Qualifications include a Bachelor’s degree in Anthropology or a closely related field. Completion of an accredited field school and demonstrated past field experience are preferred.
Standard pay range is $18-20 per hour and is based on applicant’s level of experience. Federal projects typically have a higher rate of pay as determined by project location. Single occupancy accommodation and per diem are provided for non-local projects, as is daily transportation from the Hotel to project sites.
