Job Description and Duties
In accordance with Governor Newsom’s Executive Order N-33-20 and, as a result of the COVID-19 rapid out-break, Caltrans will continue its hiring practices as they are deemed necessary to “maintain continuity of operations of the federal critical infrastructure…,” Candidates who participate in the interview process will be considered essential in promoting this effort and are not in violation of Executive Order N-33-20. As an interdisciplinary-team member, the incumbent is responsible for completing archaeological studies including project effects analysis pursuant to Federal and State regulations, including Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act and Public Resource Code 5024. These positions are under the general direction of the Archaeology Branch Chief, in the Office of Cultural Resource Studies.
The incumbent identifies and evaluates archaeological resources as part of the transportation project development process; prepares written analyses of such resources to aid in the project development process; prepares written analysis of project effects on cultural resources; and develops and recommends avoidance, minimization, or mitigation measures as needed for compliance with Federal and State laws and regulations.
