Central Washington University (CWU), Ellensburg, WA houses museum collections from numerous cultural resources research investigations including inventories and excavations of archaeological sites in Washington State. Recently, the university identified collections in their possession that are likely from land administered by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM).
The BLM seeks confirmation that the collections are from BLM land and preparation for transfer to the Museum of Anthropology at Washington State University (WSU) in Pullman, WA., the primary repository for collections from BLM lands in eastern Washington. Completing the collections inventories and submitting them to the Museum repository will help ensure the collections and the important cultural and scientific values associated with these collections are preserved for future generations.
The collections work may be conducted either at CWU under the direction of the Department of Anthropology or at WSU under the direction of the Museum Director at the Museum of Anthropology. The Spokane District BLM is the lead for this project.
Specific tasks include but are not limited to:
· Determine the origin and ownership of the museum collections through documentary research and consultation with the CWU Anthropology Department and Spokane District BLM.
· Organize, catalog, and inventory objects in the collection in accordance with the Museum of Anthropology’s standards for submission and acceptance of Museum collections for long-term storage at WSU.
· Prepare the collections for submission and transfer to the Museum of Anthropology at WSU.
· Work independently with regular professional communication with supervisors and other department staff.
· Perform other duties as assigned.
· Maintain regular, punctual, and predictable attendance at the job site.
· Maintain daily logs of work and accomplishments.
· Submit periodic reports to the BLM regarding the status of the collections project.
