Duties
The primary duties of this job include contributing to management of spatial data collected during archeological projects conducted across the region. Creating GIS data for past and recent survey projects, this may include archival research and review of legacy reports and GPS and/or GIS data. Maintaining the survey project tracking table to help ensure that it provides a complete record of all known archeological projects conducted in the region’s parks. Working with the SEAC archeologists to evaluate archeological GIS data for sites and surveys provided by state programs, comparing it to existing data in the SEAC geodatabase, when appropriate, modify existing and create new data for surveys and sites to fill gaps in the SEAC geodatabase. Incumbent will assist SEAC staff transition from older GNSS technology to mobile data collection by managing the shared equipment, assisting with creating maps/forms that are used on mobile devices, and development of reference maps for the Avenza app. Assisting with training SEAC and park archeologists to set up mobile GNSS equipment, collect spatial data using mobile apps, download data, prepare output, and use the data to prepare maps for reports. Selectee may also be asked to assist SEAC staff who are learning ArcGIS Pro to use the SEAC Pro template to produce maps for reports and state site forms and for other visual-spatial representations of archeological data using GIS.
