Tierra is seeking a Crew Chief in Washington State to assist the Field Director in field operations and reporting of cultural resource management projects, including overseeing crew in conducting archaeological surveys and excavations.
Essential Functions and General Responsibilities:
Supervises field crew on larger block surveys and excavations; conducts small-scale field projects without crew assistance
Completes field forms and operates a Trimble and computer tablet
Assists the Field Director with reviewing forms and data for quality assurance
Assists the Field Director in writing reports and preparing forms to pertinent agency standards
Delegates tasks to crew
Informs the Field Director of problems in the field and the office
Performs other related responsibilities as needed
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Strong communication skills
Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to interact and collaborate with the Field Director and crew
Ability to maintain confidentiality
Ability to work as a team player
Attention to organization, detail and accuracy
Knowledge of utilizing MS Word, Excel, and Outlook applications
Ability to plan, organize, and prioritize work
Expert field skills including ability to use Garmin and Trimble GPS units for mapping and navigation.
Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
Requires frequent overnight travel and extended stays. Some projects require camping in remote environments.
Requires work in remote areas and frequent exposure to outdoor elements, wildlife, rough terrain, and extreme temperatures.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Anthropology, Archaeology, Heritage Management, or related field.
Three (3) years’ related experience, including block surveys.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience on monitoring, testing, and/or data recovery projects.
Training in a particular analytic specialty of material culture or an aspect of environmental archaeology.
