Nutter & Associates, Inc., an environmental consulting group located in Athens, Ga., is looking for at least one field technician to work in the Southeast, primarily in Georgia and South Carolina. Regions primarily include the Piedmont and Mountain districts. Field responsibilities include the ability to navigate with a map and compass, use hand-held GPS units, take good field notes, ability to work on their own without direct supervision, and the ability to dig 40-50 shovel tests a day in the Southeastern Piedmont and Mountains Districts. Experience in southeastern U.S. archaeology is preferable. Candidates should be able to recognize lithic artifacts, most of which will be quartz, as well as prehistoric ceramics and historic period artifacts. Presently the position being offered are temporary, working on a project on the Chattahoochee National Forest. Future fieldwork is likely, so one or more full-time positions will be available given proven ability and ample projects. The position also gives the candidate an opportunity to learn from two veteran archaeologists with a combined 75 years of archaeological experience, both of whom are former employees of the now-retired Southeastern Archeological Services in Athens, Georgia. Beginning pay rate is $18-$21/hr, based upon prior experience and ability.
