Dovetail Cultural Resource Group (Dovetail) is accepting applications for Archaeological Technicians for projects throughout our service area. Specific projects include a two-week project in New Jersey in June, a two-week project in Delaware in July, and a three-month project in Stafford, Virginia, starting June 14. Hotel and per diem are available during the workweek for those not local to the project area. We anticipate hiring additional Archaeological Technicians on other projects in the coming weeks and months, so applications are encouraged even if you are not available in the next couple of weeks.
Dovetail is a woman-owned cultural resource management firm headquartered in Fredericksburg, Virginia, with an office in Wilmington, Delaware, serving the greater Mid-Atlantic region. Our philosophy is centered on helping clients and agencies achieve their preservation goals while fostering an internal atmosphere of collaboration, sound science, and respectful interactions within our staff. The primary responsibility of the Archaeological Technician is to perform archaeological fieldwork, though responsibilities may also extend to performing background research, working in the laboratory, or performing data entry or similar office tasks. Work is on a project-by-project basis.
Minimum Qualifications: Completion of a Bachelor’s degree in anthropology, archaeology, or a closely related field and an accredited archaeological field school are preferred, though a minimum of four years of archaeological field experience within the cultural resource management industry may be substituted for education. Ability to dig, kneel, and crouch for extended periods of time, lift at least 40 pounds, and maintain adequate physical fitness to perform field tasks is critical, as is the ability to work outdoors in hot or cold temperatures, in conditions that may include wind, rain, and/or snow.
