Description
Arcadis is seeking an archaeological field director position to support a large survey project in El Paso, Texas. This part-time position will require strict adherence to health and safety procedures, strong work ethic, excellent written and verbal communication skills and a passion for high quality workmanship. This part-time position could lead to a full-time position based on performance and project workload.
Position responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Conduct an intensive archaeological survey in El Paso, Texas.
Manage archaeological field staff and field crews.
Serve as a Field Director/Staff Archaeologist for the project reporting to the Principal Investigator.
Perform physically demanding tasks in adverse environmental conditions (e.g., rugged and unfamiliar terrain, remote locations, hot and cold temperatures).
The ability to travel to different project locations.
The ability to walk and conduct fieldwork for long hours, as well as, carry supplies weighing up to 40 pounds.
Conduct shovel testing, pedestrian survey, and site documentation.
Assist in the preparation of technical analyses and documents.
Provide Geographic Information Systems (GIS) data collection/analysis support for archaeology projects.
Demonstrated experience supervising archaeological field crews
Demonstrated experience conducting archaeological fieldwork
Demonstrated field experience in the Jornada Mogollon culture area of west Texas and southern New Mexico
Demonstrated experience utilizing GPS systems or Collector
Strong technical writing and communications skills
Ability to work with a team including internal staff and external clients
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
5 years minimum of experience in cultural resources management
Master’s degree in archaeology or a related field
Preferred Qualifications
Demonstrated understanding of Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA)
Meets the Secretary of the Interior’s Professional Qualifications Standards in archaeology
Meets the Texas Historical Commission’s qualifications for a Principal Investigator or Field Director
