Arcadis is seeking a Senior Archaeologist/Cultural Resources Specialist to take on a leadership role for the cultural resources practice in the western United States and work with the wider National Cultural Resources Community of Practice in developing strategy to grow cultural resource work for clients across the west. A successful candidate will serve as a Principal Investigator (PI) and provided senior oversight for field programs and management of subcontractors on large programs and projects. They will also provide quality assurance planning and best practices for execution of cultural resources work in the western U.S. Arcadis is specifically looking for staff with planning and permitting experience for linear infrastructure experience (ideally utilities in key areas including California and Nevada). This position based at one of Arcadis’ western office locations (Denver, CO; Roseville, CA; San Luis Obispo, CA; Phoenix, AZ; Las Vegas, NV; Reno, NV) and will require strict adherence to health and safety procedures, strong work ethic, excellent written and verbal communication skills and a passion for high quality workmanship.
Position responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Conduct and provide senior leadership for archaeological fieldwork for multiple projects and at all levels of investigation (Phases I-III).
Manage archaeological field staff and archaeological field crews, including subcontractors.
Serve as a PI/Field Director for projects in a variety of locations on the west coast including: California, Nevada, Arizona, New Mexico and Texas).
Lead for field assessments related to archaeological projects, when required.
Key cultural team member who interacts with project managers, directors, and principals and works as part of an interdisciplinary environmental team
Prepare technical analyses and documents.
Provide supervision, training, technical direction and mentoring to more junior staff, when appropriate.
Applies technical and business knowledge and methods to develop creative, effective, and economical solutions to address current and potential project issues
Desired skills and experience:
Strong knowledge of cultural resources management and NHPA Section 106
Excellent technical writing and communications skills
Experience conducting archaeological fieldwork and supervising field crews
Working knowledge of GPS systems or ArcGIS collector
Ability to walk and conduct fieldwork for long hours, as well as, carry supplies weighing up to 40 pounds
Possess a valid driver’s license, be able to operate a 4×4 vehicle, and pass a background check
Ability to travel up to 25% #LI-CA1
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
Minimum 10 years of experience in the field
Master’s degree in archaeology or a related field
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in historic artifact or prehistoric ceramic analysis
Experience in cultural resources management and archaeological investigations in the western United States- ideally Principal Investigator.
Experience working with federal land management agencies (BLM, USFS, NPS, etc.)
Demonstrated understanding of Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA)
Meets the Secretary of the Interior’s Professional Qualifications Standards in archaeology
At least eight (8) years’ experience working in the consulting environment and ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
Demonstrated NEPA/CEQA experience.

In accordance with the Colorado Equal Pay Transparency Rules: Arcadis offers benefits for full time positions. Full time positions also come with annual PTO days and at certain levels a bonus program may apply. The Salary range for this role is $91,000-$142,000 for Colorado based positions only. Other locations will vary in salary range.
